Share How Open Source Helps Power Your Organization

The Call for Proposals for FOSS4G North America 2026 has been extended for talks and lightning talks until July 20, 2026, or until identified program gaps are filled. Workshop submissions are now closed, and poster submissions remain open through September 15, 2026, as originally scheduled.

After reviewing the first round of submissions, the Program Committee identified four areas where we would like to strengthen the program:

  • Business of Open Source

  • Community of Practice

  • Water, Fire, and Resilience

  • Core Open Source Geospatial Tools and Infrastructure

Today, we want to highlight one of those areas: Business of Open Source.

When people hear “business of open source,” they may think only of sales or commercial software companies. But this track is much broader than that. It is about the practical structures that allow open source geospatial work to continue, grow, and serve real users over time.

We would love to receive more talks and lightning talks that explore questions such as:

  • How do organizations fund open source geospatial work?

  • How do public agencies invest in open source tools, infrastructure, and communities?

  • What governance models help projects remain healthy and accountable?

  • What lessons have you learned from building, funding, maintaining, or relying on open source geospatial tools?

These talks do not need to be polished success stories. We are interested in practical examples, honest lessons learned, unresolved challenges, and real-world experiences.

Submit your proposal ASAP!
